Matchmaking in Destiny, is it ever going to happend?
On April 12, , Destiny and The Division will go head-to-head for the first time when they each release their free updates. The April update will come with a new mission that takes place on the Dreadnaught called Pretender to the Throne. However, no one voice controls them. Apparently someone is trying to fill the void of power that Oryx left, and Variks would like you to investigate.
Destiny’s Prison of Elders Endgame Activity Is Matchmade Additionally, three other non-matchmaking activities, Skolas’s Revenge, Urrox’s.
Well, with Destiny ‘s first expansion, The Dark Below , the game was given its second Raid — a high-end, high-difficulty mission that could only be completed by the best of the best. As part of its series of pre-release reveals, Bungie finally showed off the Raid’s replacement, otherwise known as the Prison of Elders. Is this new, Horde Mode-style match a worth successor — or will fans be stuck with a half-baked co-op mode until the next true Raid is released?
From what Bungie has shown, longtime Destiny players should be excited. At its core, the mode is a cooperative endurance test against wave after wave of the game’s toughest enemies. Bungie is however making sure that the mode won’t become a slog. There’s the core Arena that opens at level 28, and six other “Challenge” variations on top of that. Five of these variations will rotate on a weekly basis, while the final variation is permanently set to level 35 — meaning that no matter what, players will always be outclassed by the enemies they’re fighting.
Aside from the fact that the Prison of Elders isn’t a Raid, the biggest change to Destiny ‘s endgame is that players will have access to matchmaking for these new Arenas. Players won’t have to worry about entering the Prison of Elders without a full party, as Bungie will allow fans to party up with strangers before starting a game. The matchmaking is limited to the core level 28 variation, but it’s a big step forward for those who don’t have a full friends list.
On top of that, the option of playing solo through the Prison of Elders is available — though you probably won’t want to play alone. The Prison of Elders’ overall gameplay is similar to other cooperative, wave-based survival modes, but the structure is a bit different. Each Arena consists of five rounds, which are further divided into three waves.
How to survive in Destiny’s tough new ‘Prison of Elders’ mode
The Challenge of the Elders will support matchmaking and resets weekly, offering fireteams the chance for rewards based off points scored during matches. A new Strike will put Guardians up against a new Taken enemy named Malak, pictured above. Moreover, the Archon Priest Strike will be amended to include a bunch of Taken. Neat, eh?

Today, Bungie took to Twitch and other sources around the interwebs to showcase the new endgame activity for Destiny, the Prison of Elders. The new mode allows for a few ways to play in terms of difficulty. During the livestream, a display of the new location, The Reef, gave us a look at four ways to get down and dirty with the activity all staged for different levels of challenge.
It was expressed that the base version is a level 28 random activity in the Prison of Elders that allows matchmaking and can be played as many times as desired for constant reward. From what I understand, the activity consists of about 5 to 6 rounds each spanning 3 waves to complete. Before entering a room however, each round you are given a match modifier that affects the way you take on the room. Some of these modifiers may be familiar to those that make the weekly strike grind such as Arc Burn or Lightswitch, but there are new ones as well like Brawler that increases Guardian melee damage or even one that buffs the amount of damage your shield can take but also negates shield regeneration.
Constantly having to switch up your gear or tactics on the fly will require some heavy concentration and coordination from you and your Fireteam. Some round waves also have objective based gameplay like I said before. This entails things like having to capture zones to disarm bombs in certain time frames or killing a specific enemy before he reaches his destination all in the midst of combat making players become constantly on the move. If these secondary objectives are not completed, guardians are brutally forced to restart the round from square one so be sure to hit those objectives as soon as they pop up.
Mini bosses are another issue for players to have to face. Luckily, for those that make it past usually around the second wave, a bonus is dropped for players to assist in the fight. These bonuses consist of things like a heavy ammo drop for the team to share or the new Scorch Cannon.
Destiny’s April update has 335 Light, new Prison of Elders challenges, more
Here is how ” optional ” matchmaking would work. Once activated, the game will automatically look for team mates for you like it does in strike missions and stuff. People have different schedules, so even if a player had an abundance of friends playing Destiny; playing with them can still be a challenge because of such things like
Due to fan demand, Bungie adds Prison of Elders matchmaking to the game’s wish list as a potential feature to be added eventually, but stops.
As guessed by numerous fans, Prison of Elders is a variation on the Horde mode first popularized years ago by Gears of War. In the storyline of House of Wolves, most of the Fallen soldiers that previously served the Queen of the Awoken have betrayed her, but one of the Fallen remained behind in the Reef and is still loyal. This Fallen character, named Variks, acts as a warden for the prison, and he engineers an opportunity for guardians to test their mettle within the dreaded detention facility.
Variks acts both as the central narrator for the Prison, but also as the vendor for rewards. Looking beyond the story setup, Prison of Elders is built as an end-game activity for three players. Each run at the Prison of Elders requires three players. A base level 28 version includes randomized rounds, bosses, and conditional effects, and this version allows for matchmaking, so you can play even without any of your friends online.
In any given week, the Prison of Elders also has three challenge versions available, and matchmaking is not provided. These more defined challenges pit you against particular enemies within the Prison, and have more preset conditions and rewards. Each week, you can tackle a level 32, 34, and 35 challenge mode. There are six total challenge arenas to tackle in House of Wolves, but only three of them will be available each week, and then a new one will rotate into circulation, kicking the bottom level 32 challenge off with its arrival.

One of the more interesting features to be added into Destiny 2 via its recently launched Warmind DLC is a new type of endgame activity called Escalation Protocols. In theory, Escalation Protocols function as a special sort of outdoor endgame activity in which players fight off increasingly powerful waves of Hive enemies. In the eyes of the community, one slight tweak could potentially fix those headaches: Escalation Protocol matchmaking.
Sadly, even the most skilled fireteams have been finding the later waves of the Escalation Protocols in which enemy power levels nearly crest while players are capped at an insurmountable challenge.

There are four pieces of downloadable content DLC that were released for Bungie ‘s first-person shooter video game Destiny. Each package of downloadable content added new player versus environment PvE missions and player versus player PvP modes, new locales to visit, and new items for the player to make use of. The third, The Taken King , was released in September and had the largest effect on the game, as it changed much of the core gameplay.
In December , Destiny shifted to an event-based model, featuring more periodical limited-time events. The fourth and last expansion called Rise of Iron released in September Although the first three downloadable content packs were available for all consoles that Destiny was originally released for PlayStation 3 , PlayStation 4 , Xbox , and Xbox One , the fourth expansion, Rise of Iron , is only available on the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
As per an exclusivity agreement with Sony Interactive Entertainment , Destiny and all of its expansions featured timed exclusive content for the PlayStation versions. The timed exclusive content that was available at the launch of Destiny , as well as the exclusive content of the first two expansions, became available for Xbox when The Taken King launched.
Prior to the official release of Destiny in September , Bungie declared that a major component of the game would be a continuous release of new content.
